The Prefects Cup, also known as the Adelaide Exchange, is a sporting exchange that has been a longstanding tradition between Adelaide High School and Melbourne High School. The annual competition between the two schools began in the early 1900’s. This exchange was stopped some years later, only to be revived in 1950. We are thrilled the event is still running in 2024.
The Adelaide Exchange program has a rich history of sporting, social and cultural benefits, and creating lasting friendships. It provides students with an opportunity to develop their skills, build character, and broaden their perspectives. The program promotes healthy competition and fosters a sense of community between schools. The exchange also helps to build connections between individuals from different backgrounds and cultures.
The Adelaide Exchange program creates lasting friendships between students, teachers, and the two schools. The program builds connections that can last a lifetime. Students who participate in the exchange often stay in touch with their fellow competitors and friends after the program has ended. They continue to share their experiences, and these friendships often extend beyond the sporting arena and into their personal lives and careers.
This year, Adelaide High School students will arrive around mid-afternoon on Sunday 18th August and depart MHS around 4pm on Wednesday 21st Aug. They are staying for three nights, and will be attending MHS on all weekdays. There are approximately 63 students from Adelaide who will need to be billeted with a host family for the duration of their stay. Families are encouraged to host more than one student as this creates a great social connection for the host and visiting students. In 2025 we will reciprocate the trip, and travel to Adelaide.

We highly encourage Melbourne High Students who are selected in teams to host or organise a friend who is willing to host. Hosting can also be a great way for younger students to be part of an exchange they may take part in, in future years.
As a requirement of hosting, all adults in the household will need to hold a current Working with Children Check. You can apply for a volunteer Working with Children Check which is free to obtain.
