Celebrating the Arts – MHS Annual Arts Show 2024

Congratulations to all the staff and students who were involved in this year’s Art Show.

As always, our students do not disappoint and the show illustrated the depth and breadth of their talent in media, the visual arts, theatre and design. Pictured here is the winner of the top prize of the show, the Mihaela Brysha award, Hayden Li. Hayden’s work formed the background of this year’s Art Show poster. The outstanding piece involved hours of detailed work. It will hang in our gallery for the remainder of the year for people to view it. Thank you to Mihaela (standing alongside Hayden) for her continued support of the school. Mihaela had a distinguished career at the school as an Art teacher and later Head of Department.

Other award recipients included Year 9 students Xander Tamaray and Damien Chung Han Hau. (Pictured below)

Class of 1994 – 30 Year Reunion

Over 70 class of 1994 alumni attended their 30 Year reunion on November 15. It was a great night with many mates rekindling past friendships and sharing stories from their school days. Thank you to the team at the MHSOBA – Jo, Grace and Ted for their coordination and work on the night, Colin Axup, MHSOBA President for being the MC, and Luke Savage our Honorary Archivist for conducting the school tour.

I am pictured here with Kevin Slade, Toby Griffin, Ben Kent and Ben Ooi.

New Year 10 and 11 Student Orientation

This week we welcomed the new students coming into Year 10 and 11 next year. Thank you to Ms. Rosemary Dickson our Registrar and the many staff (ES and teaching staff), and student helpers who assisted on the day. The high praise received from the students and families reflected the level of care and support provided by this team.

Congratulation Ms Binbin Liu – Victorian Institute of Teaching Full Registration

Last week I had the pleasure of sitting on the panel to assess Ms Liu’ application for full registration. Achieving full registration involves undertaking a project over the course of several terms with a group of Year 9 Japanese students, assessing the extent to which social and collaborative in class activities improve learning.

The data demonstrated improvements and illustrated how much can be gained through face-to-face conversation.

Thank you to Ms Vassie Kakolyris for her mentorship and Mr Dean Griffiths for his leadership and oversight of the program.
