Parking and Traffic Management at Melbourne High School

Share

An important reminder to all members of the School community of the regulations regarding parking and traffic management at Melbourne High School.

Vehicle traffic within the school grounds is regulated under the school’s Traffic Management Plan. As a result of the increasing population living in the Forrest Hill precinct, the school now enforces strict parking regulations and traffic controls within the grounds to ensure the safety and security of all members of the school community, and to ensure that emergency services access is not compromised. The City of Stonnington has been given authority to enter the school grounds and issue infringement notices to non-compliant vehicles. The school is unable to intervene once these notices have been issued and has no authority to request an infringement be waived.

The following rules are in place, and apply equally to staff, parents, and visitors:

  • During school hours all vehicles parked on the ground must display a current MHS parking permit, or their registrations need to be signed in at the office. Vehicles with parking permits must still obey VicRoads and Emergency Services approved parking signs and road markings
  • Parking signs (no standing and time limits) are enforced at all times
  • Yellow kerb marking indicating no-standing zones are enforced at all times.
  • Parking on any grassed lawn or embankment is not permitted at any time
  • Speed limit of 10kmh

As the school driveway is a shared zone for pedestrians and vehicles, for safety reasons, and to minimise congestion, parents dropping off or picking up students should not drive into the school grounds. Parents are also advised not to enter Forrest Hill (off Chapel St) to drop off students, as this is very small road used by many vehicles from surrounding buildings; turning around in Forrest Hill is both difficult and dangerous.
