Principal’s Report

Time to reflect and recalibrate.

As Term 3 draws to a close, our graduating class enters the crucial final stretch of their journey. This “third quarter” is the moment to prepare for the sprint to the finish line.

In our final assemblies this term, I reminded both Junior and Senior School students of the importance of using the break not only to rest but also to reflect on their progress so far. It is a time to ask: What has gone well? What needs to change? What adjustments can sharpen performance in the months ahead?

Reflection is not just a personal habit—it is central to growth. In every model of continuous improvement, evaluation and recalibration are vital steps. The same applies here: meaningful reflection now can drive stronger outcomes later.

I encourage parents and carers to support students in this process. Help them pause, reflect, and reset. With the right mindset and strategies, our students can return next term refreshed, focused, and ready to perform at their very best.

VCE Practice Exams

A sincere thank you to everyone involved in delivering the VCE practice exams. Coordinating this program is a major logistical exercise at MHS, with more than 700 students completing a Unit 3/4 subject and some exams involving over 300 students. It requires significant planning and teamwork—teachers writing and marking exams, administrative staff managing photocopying, and facilities staff preparing the rooms. A particular vote of thanks goes to Mr James Taylor (Head of Senior School), Mr Joshua Slocombe (VCE Coordinator), Ms Paula Fuentes (VASS Coordinator), our dedicated VCE teachers, and Ms Kellie Porter (Administrative Assistant).

P&F Picnic – King George Reserve, Bentleigh East

On Sunday 14 September, we held a very successful family gathering for parents in the southeastern suburbs. These regional events are proving highly effective in building connections and friendships between local families. Thank you to the P&F for their ongoing efforts to strengthen our community, with a special mention to the Community Engagement Sub-committee of School Council: Anita Arbogast, David Chow, Karen Kiang, Year 11 student Jet Cheung, and Assistant Principal Mr Paul Drew.

Farewell – Lisa Caruthers

This week we farewelled Lisa Caruthers, a long-standing member of staff who has made an outstanding contribution to the School. As Sports Administrator, Lisa has overseen facility bookings, coordinated interstate exchanges, played a key logistics role in House Sports, and coached across a range of programs. As a multi–gold medal Olympic hockey player, she has also brought exceptional expertise and inspiration to our sporting community. We thank Lisa for her dedication and wish her every success in the next chapter of her life.

School Returns – Monday 6 October

I look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 6 October. Until then, enjoy the break and stay safe.
