Principal’s Report
Welcome back
I hope everyone enjoyed a restful term break. It has been pleasing to see how quickly we have settled back into routine, with the focus, effort, and dedication that are hallmarks of our school.
For our graduating class, this is the final sprint before exams. As I’ve noted in several forums, now is the time to focus deeply and give your very best effort. Remember, you are not alone in this journey—your Student Learning Coordinators (Year Level Leaders), the Wellbeing Team, and your subject teachers are all here to guide and support you.\
Soft Diplomacy, Entrepreneurship and Human Leadership
Over the past month, several activities have highlighted the many ways we continue to develop well-rounded, business-minded, and socially responsible citizens.
Visit from the Hon. Ben Carroll, Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, and Mr John Berger MLA, Member for Southern Metropolitan Melbourne.
Last week, we were honoured to host the Minister for Education and Mr Berger, who addressed our Political Interest Group. They were accompanied by two senior Department of Education officials: Ms Rachel George (Senior Education Improvement Leader) and Mr Michael Devine (Executive Director, Bayside Peninsula Area, South-East Victoria Region).
With some strategic guidance from their Principal, our students prepared a thoughtful set of questions in advance. The resulting discussion was engaging and far-reaching, exploring topics such as the role of selective entry schools, education funding, and the skills and experiences that shape future public leaders.
In preparing the students, I spoke about the concept of soft diplomacy. From my own experience in the political arena, I’ve learned that those who seek to force outcomes or apply undue pressure rarely succeed. A measured, respectful approach—built on relationships and influence—almost always yields better results. This approach served us well. The meeting led to several positive outcomes, including ongoing engagement with local MPs. Mr Berger has confirmed he will return next month for a school tour and another session with the Political Interest Group.

Cadet Dinners and Final Parade
In recent weeks, we have held several Cadet Unit dinners and our annual Cadet Parade. My sincere thanks to all staff and volunteers who give so generously of their time to organise camps, training activities, and social events.
As I mentioned at one of the dinners, many students only come to fully appreciate their cadet experience later in life. The program fosters invaluable skills including teamwork, initiative, leadership, resilience, and personal discipline, skills that endure long after graduation.

VCE Exams – Venue and Key Information
Students have now received full briefings and all relevant details regarding the VCE exam venue at Caulfield Racecourse, along with expectations for all exam participants.
The new venue will provide a quiet, comfortable setting, free from the disruptions caused by current building works on campus. Staff will be stationed at Caulfield Train Station and at the venue itself to ensure students can easily find their examination rooms.
VCE English Exam – Tuesday 28 October
Arrangements for Junior and Senior School Students Not Sitting the Exam
The logistics of the English exam require a significant number of staff. As in previous years, students not undertaking the VCE English exam will have an Independent Learning Day. Staff will upload appropriate learning tasks, and students will complete these at home.
This arrangement allows us to provide the necessary exam supervision and support. I thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Dr Tony Mordini
Principal
