On Friday, 12 September, the Melbourne High School Rowing Club gathered to celebrate the announcement of the new Captain of Boats for the 2025–26 season. Now in its 112th year, the club filled the William Angliss Restaurant to capacity, hosting 130 rowers, parents, coaches, and special guests.
Guests enjoyed a delectable duck and lamb dinner before the much-anticipated Captain of Boats announcement. The room buzzed with excitement, nerves, and a touch of surprise as the new leadership was revealed.
A massive congratulations to Ian Li, whose unwavering dedication, sense of responsibility, and pursuit of excellence earned him the title of Captain of Boats. Further applause goes to Neel Shah and Louis Mulet, who were named Vice-Captains of Boats—roles forged through countless training sessions that tested their grit and commitment.
The auction followed the announcement, bringing a wave of laughter, suspense, and spirited bidding. It was masterfully conducted by Year 10 rower Saathvik Shankar, whose natural charisma and quick wit belied his age and inexperience. With the confidence of a seasoned pro, he kept the crowd engaged and the bids climbing.

While the strength of the club lies in its rowers, its foundation is built on the enduring support of parents, coaches, donors, MHS Old Boys, and the broader fraternity. Since its founding in 1913, the Melbourne High School Rowing Club has thrived thanks to this community’s tireless efforts, planning, and generosity. Their legacy is woven into every stroke, every race, and every season. Congratulations once again to our newly appointed Captain and Vice-Captains. Here’s to a thrilling and successful season ahead for the entire Melbourne High School Rowing Club.
