On the 19th of December 2023, thirteen members of the Railway Interest Group embarked on a wonderful day trip excursion to Phillip Island completely by public transport! The group met up at Frankston Station and took the Stony Point extension line to the ferry service.
The Stony Point line is Melbourne’s only diesel service on the metropolitan network and acts as an extension of the Frankston line. A pair of two V/Line Sprinter trains have been leased to Metro Trains by V/Line for the Stony Point line since 2008 (for Metro users, this was very exciting).
After taking the ferry from Stony Point to Cowes, the group explored the town area and of course had fish and chips for lunch. When the sun decided to come out, we were finally able to enjoy the beach and unwind from the exam stress and anxieties of the past year.
Overall, the group had an amazing experience and we encourage all students to participate in future RIG excursions!
