Toyota Centre of Excellence Excursion

Share

On Tuesday, October 8th, a group of students, Mr. Collom, and I had the privilege of visiting the Toyota Centre of Excellence. This experience was truly remarkable for all involved.

Ben Naughtin opened the day with an insightful presentation on the Toyota Production System Support Centre (TSSC). This model exemplifies Toyota’s commitment to giving back to the local community by sharing its extensive manufacturing expertise with organisations dedicated to continuous improvement. During this session, students gained valuable insights into the Toyota Production System; the principles of Continuous Improvement (kaizen); the importance of teamwork and customer value; as well as the seven wastes (Muda) that represent non-value-added work. Ben also provided practical examples of how the Toyota Production System is implemented across various profit and non-profit organisations.

Following Ben’s impressive presentation, we enjoyed a guided tour of Toyota’s Hydrogen Experience Centre, where Hanna showcased innovative technologies in lower and zero emissions. Students had the opportunity to examine fuel cell electric vehicles, which represent a promising direction for the future of transportation.

The students were thoroughly impressed with the presentations and the wealth of knowledge shared by our guides. We extend our sincere gratitude to Koji Yoshimura and Evelyn Lee for organising this invaluable tour and to all our knowledgeable and inspiring hosts.
