On Friday, the Melbourne High School Parents & Friends Association launched a new initiative with an evening at the Chef’s Table at Chin Chin, right in the heart of the CBD.
It was a fantastic night—full of laughter, great conversation, and incredible food. We were especially thrilled that Principal Tony Mordini and Assistant Principal Robert Sette were able to join us.
The conversations flowed until midnight when we were (politely) asked to leave the restaurant… only for the chats to continue out on the street!
It was a rare and much-needed night out—no kids, just connection and community.
This dinner marked the beginning of a new effort to bring parents, students, and teachers together outside of the usual school setting. With our community spread across Melbourne, it’s not always easy to feel connected—but we believe food has a special way of bringing people together.
We’ve got a series of family-friendly foodie gatherings lined up over the coming months with more to be added over a wider geographic area. We hope you will join us (more details below).

We’re hosting a potluck dinner to celebrate the amazing culinary diversity in our community — and to connect parents and students over great food!
Ken I. will be serving up his famous-in-3084 Char Kway Teow. Though he’s Japanese-American, he’s perfected the dish through countless YouTube tutorials and annual food pilgrimages observing hawkers across Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and beyond.
Jackie B is generously bringing her legendary homemade dumplings — trust us, you won’t want to miss them!
We’ll have a roaring Aussie campfire for roasting marshmallows and slow-cooked delights. If you’re up for making a curry, biryani or other amazing dishes to share we’d love your help!
Some members of the Hurstbridge Line group have been getting together over great food for years, and we are excited to invite the whole MHS family to join us. Come hungry and bring something to share!
