Volunteering at Melbourne High School
This page explains how parents, carers, family members and community volunteers can support Melbourne High School, and what steps are required before commencing a volunteering role.
Volunteering at Melbourne High School (MHS) is a great way to connect with school families and the wider school community, learn more about the school, support school activities, and model positive community involvement for your children and family.
MHS has a busy events and extra-curricular calendar, with many opportunities for volunteers to be involved. Volunteers support the school in a range of ways, including assisting with music and ceremony events, helping in the uniform shop, supporting fundraising activities, assisting with excursions, camps and sporting events, and helping at parent and community events such as family picnics and dinners.
Becoming a volunteer at MHS
As part of our commitment to child safety, all volunteers who undertake child-related work or volunteer regularly are required to hold a Working With Children Check (WWCC). This helps protect students and volunteers. Applying for a volunteer WWCC is simple and free. For more information about volunteer roles and responsibilities, please read the MHS Volunteers Policy.
Adding Melbourne High School to your WWCC
When applying for a new Working With Children Check, renewing your WWCC, or updating your existing details, please list Melbourne High School as an organisation where you volunteer. This can be done online through Service Victoria by using the Working With Children Check “Update details” service and adding Melbourne High School in the section that asks where you work or volunteer.
Keeping these details current helps the school confirm that your WWCC is connected to your volunteering role at MHS. If your volunteering arrangement changes, please update your WWCC organisation details as soon as possible.
As part of the engagement process, you will need to complete a Volunteer Agreement. The Agreement records your contact details, volunteering role, WWCC and supervising staff member details. It also provides an acknowledgement of several key MHS documents which you are required to abide by including:
- MHS Child Safety Code of Conduct: https://mhs.vic.edu.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Child-Safety-Code-of-Conduct-2025.pdf
