Principal’s Report

Ensuring we maintain a great environment for learning…

Recently some of our major donors were invited to the school to see the latest set of classroom upgrades. Donors who have contributed over $5,000 have been recognised on boards as illustrated.

A heart-felt thanks to all who have contributed. We look forward to your ongoing support and we welcome new families to do the same.

The aesthetics and technical aspects of our classrooms help to ensure teaching and learning are well supported and the physical environment is inviting and comfortable.

Cadet Program

This week over 120 students have embarked on a Winter Bivouac. Cadets is a well-subscribed program that builds character, service and leadership.  Many alumni comment years after they graduate how much they gained from the experience. Thank you to the following staff for their coordination, supervision and support – Mr Stephen Huysing, Mr Matthew Roberts, Mr Sam Slocombe, Mr Joshua Slocombe, Dr Shaun Kemp, Mr Cameron Smith and Mr Brendan Moncrief. The staff will be supported by a number of volunteer alumni who generously give up their weekend to assist with the activities. A serious commitment in the depths of winter!

Indonesia and Sri Lanka Trips

Next week two tours leave our shores. A group will be off to Sri Lanka to play cricket, and a larger group off to Indonesia to participate in an educational experience that will include language, art and biology activities. Many hours have gone into the preparations, and I thank the staff in advance for their willingness to conduct these activities and give so generously of their time.

Select Entry High School Mentors Outreach Program

Thank you to Ms Pilkington and Mr Bowen for coordinating this event. Year 10 students from the four select entry schools attended this week’s briefing and training session. Next semester, the students will mentor a group of senior primary school pupils who have been selected as potential select entry students. This is an exciting opportunity to encourage the next generation of potential candidates. An effort is being made to ensure that students from under-represented groups participate. This project is being funded by the Victorian Department of Education.

MHS Tax Appeal 2024

Melbourne High School Foundation Ltd (the “Foundation”) is dedicated to fostering extraordinary learning experiences beyond the standard curriculum. As the School’s primary fundraising entity, the Foundation is instrumental in providing innovative programs and state-of-the-art facilities that exceed the limitations of government funding and parental contributions.

Every year, the Foundation launches an annual tax time appeal to garner support for priority projects. These are carefully chosen to enhance the learning environment and provide unique opportunities for our students. This year, they include:

  • Undertaking much-needed repairs to Memorial Hall
  • Raising funds for solar panels
  • Launching an artists-in-residence program
  • Ensuring students can travel for sports nationally and internationally
  • Providing financial assistance for students from diverse backgrounds

The MHS Foundation Ltd is a charitable entity, separate from the School, so all donations over $2 are tax deductible. Regardless of size, your contribution helps to ensure that every student at Melbourne High School receives the best possible education.

This is an opportunity for you to make a lasting impact on the lives of our students. Together, we can create an educational experience that truly goes beyond marks.

Thank you for your generous support.

On behalf of the Melbourne High School Foundation Team.
