Celebrating a key milestone – the Year 12 Formal
This week we celebrated the Year 12 Formal at the Crown Palladium. As expected, it was a wonderful night where students, their guests and staff celebrated this key milestone in their secondary school journey. A sincere thank you to the student leaders who took carriage of the event and Ms Capon and Ms Tsilimidos who worked with the students, venue staff and the technical team to ensure a very successful night.
The evening involved student-led entertainment including bands, dance and film. A few examples are shown below. These are yet another reminder and demonstration that our students are not just talented academically, many are very talented dancers, actors, musicians, film makers and singers as well!
Investment Forum – preparing the next generation for future financial security
This week a group of students participated in an Investment Forum, with special guests: Dr Alex Joiner, Chief Economist at IFM Investors, and Dr John Iles, financial strategist from CFA. This forum covered critical issues and financial strategies aimed at maximizing future financial security. Thank you to Mr Marotta for organising the event.
Indonesian Speaking Competition Awards 2024
On Friday August 9, Melbourne High School in conjunction with the Victorian Indonesian Language Teachers Association (VILTA) hosted the annual Speaking Competition for children in Years Prep to 11. As I noted in my welcome address, I believe it is very important for schools to foster the teaching of languages as they help to not only develop language skills, but they also help to develop students’ intercultural understandings. These are vital life skills which will provide a valuable adjunct in students’ future professional careers and personal development.
This activity is VILTA’s largest, both in terms of the length of time for implementation and preparation, as well as the number of participants. The competition draws participants from 34 schools across metropolitan and regional areas.
Our guest for the evening was Mr Kuncoro Giri WASESO Consul-General of Indonesia. Melbourne High School did well taking home a number of awards. Four of our recipients are shown below – Joah Quach, Dylan Nugroho, Maximillian Hostiadi, and Hazeeq Bin Iszal. (From left to right). Unfortunately, 3 winners from our school missed the Award Night, they are Henry Lake, Arjun Ganessane, Wesley Harjadi.
A sincere thank you to Ms Silvy Wantania for overseeing the event.
Congratulations Vishwa Ramkumar (Class of 2023)
As noted last week, Cricket Australia has named Vishwa Ramkumar in the Australian squad for the upcoming Under-19 Men’s Tour of India. Here is an official picture of the talented leg-spinner. We wish him all the very best for the upcoming tour. (Photo source: Cricket Australia)
